North Carolina State Senator Amy Galey continues to make her mark on the General Assembly. Galey is pushing a bill that would force the government to be more open on why a taxpayer supported employee was disciplined or fired, or promoted. It is called the Government Transparency Act of 2021. Galey, a former Alamance County Commissioner, says the public has a right to know when and why any police officer, teacher or any other government employee is disciplined, demoted or fired. This is not the first time the General Assembly has tried to make the government bureaucracy more honest. A similar bill in the late 1990’s passed the state Senate, but was killed in the state House. In 2011 the same idea was passed in the state House but died in the State Senate.
