The unofficial results are in, and there are some surprises from yesterday’s election. The biggest surprise of course, is that Roy Cooper won the vote in Alamance County and it appears he has won re-election for Governor.
Also here in Alamance County, Amy Galey has defeated J D Wooten to take Rick Gunn’s seat in the North Carolina State Senate.
All 3 Republican candidates for the Alamance County Commissioners easily won: John Paisley, Jr., Pamela Tyler Thompson, and Bill Lashley. On the Alamance Burlington School Board, 3 of the top 4 vote getters are conservatives. Sandy Ellington Graves was the top vote getter for the school board, followed by Ryan Bowden, Patsy Simpson, and Donna Davis Westbrookes.
Rick Champion easily won his race for District Court Judge and Dennis Riddell won re-election for the General Assembly. A surprising upset as political newcomer Ricky Hurtado beat out Steven Ross for his state house seat. That race though, is less than 400 votes. That is so close that Ross could call for a recount.
A reminder, these are the unofficial results. Each county elections board will release the final official tally on November 13th and the state elections board will have the final official vote count on November 24th.
