Friday Night Lights is coming...

The Maverick (1200 AM and 95.1 FM) will carry on the rich tradition of the Alamance County Game of the Week this football season.  The Maverick broadcast team is being put together and The Maverick roster has added long time Sports Writer and Broadcaster, Kurt Ward!  Chuck Marsh (Maverick owner) said "I've know Kurt for several years.  We've talked radio before and he was one of the first people I thought of when we had an opening on our broadcast team.

This fall, Kurt Ward of Gibsonville returns to the world of sports reporting after a hiatus of about 16 years. Ward served as a sports journalist for 14 years, covering community, high school, collegiate and professional sports throughout North Carolina from 1988 to 2002. He has written articles for many of the state’s largest newspapers, including The Raleigh News & Observer, The Charlotte Observer, and the Greensboro News & Record. He served as sports editor of the Watauga Democrat in Boone and covered many Alamance County high school teams for the Greensboro News & Record.

He also has radio broadcasting experience, having served as the General Manager of WVIO, an AM station in Boone and Blowing Rock.

Much of Ward’s professional life has been spent helping non-profits with their communications and public relations practices. He helped launch NC Parent Corps and Alamance County Parents Who Care, two organizations that worked to prevent teen alcohol and drug use. He also values higher education and has served in communication and leadership roles with both Guilford Technical Community College and UNC-Greensboro.

For the past 10 years, Ward has served as associate pastor of Westside Fellowship Church in Elon. In his role there, he assists with leadership development, adult discipleship, communication and administration.

Ward is married with three kids.
